Cornwall test

Is the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association (Reg. Ch. No 250312), the organisation that runs the annual ' Royal ' Cornwall Show still, in this 21st Century, a forelock tugging non-egalitarian feudal relic, like the Duchy of Cornwall (corp. div.), mainly for the benefit of an elite club and propped up by a servile and complicit BBC, via BBC Radio Cornwall, determined in its efforts to hold back Cornwall’s drive towards greater and long overdue autonomy and self-determination? :

An exploration of the origins and causes of the unsustainable pressures piling up on Cornwall, the 5th Celtic nation of the British Isles as reflected in the activities of Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association Council and the BBC :

Caught up in its mission to insinuate itself into and manipulate all aspects of life in Cornwall whilst simultaneously marginalising the aspirations of her people towards autonomy, BBC Radio Cornwall has been trying, in 2006, to lure its listeners to ‘ Design a Garden of Cornwall ‘ to display on a waste tip which is not only a prime example of how NOT to meddle with ancient landscapes but would also be an automatic contender in any competition to design a

‘MAN-MADE FLOOD HAZARD OF CORNWALL ‘.
(See 'The ‘New’, ‘Biggest’ & ‘Best’ Prize Farmyard Quiz! below)

Increasingly, since becoming fundamentally compromised as a public service broadcaster by becoming an agent and promoter of Camelot Plc, the for-profit corporate operator of the UK state sponsored gambling enterprise the National Lottery, the BBC has sought to promote its own brand name by collaborating with various corporations and charities in the guise of delivering its social remit. This has even extended to installing BBC executives on the boards of trustees of National Lottery undemocratically funded projects (see www.eden-project-insight.tk ).This has inevitably undermined the BBC’s statutory neutrality in programming and news reporting.

In some cases the BBC latches on to authentic voluntarily funded charitable operations such as the RNLI or Shelterbox or natural disaster relief appeals , where objectives and practices are relatively clear cut , socially beneficial and enjoy wide and energetic support. Occasionally however, background research is inadequate and the BBC finds itself colluding with an operation, such as the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, whose history and practices are significantly less than pristine and fundamentally inconsistent with officially stated aims and objectives.

BBC Radio Cornwall , who have clearly not done their research very thoroughly in this instance or have conveniently selective collective short term memory loss, have been busily, desperately and repetitively trying to lure listeners into entering a competition to ‘Design a Garden of Cornwall ‘ (alongside an attempt to dragoon children to design a ‘ Roundabout for Cornwall ‘ to tart up a road construction scheme in the absence of any balanced discussion of the virtues or otherwise of the current plague of un-sustainable levels of tarmac-king and unnecessary over - development across Cornwall ) by rustling up a mini-garden design for display on top of the mineral waste tip which, for the three days of the Royal Cornwall Show , is exploited as a platform for the temporary Flower Tent and later, for a solitary ‘ winner ’, at the Royal Horticultural Society Hampton Court Flower Show in July to be further ‘ scrutinised ‘ by BBC (what’s this?-more symbiotic self-promotion?) ‘Celebrity‘gardeners Alan Titchmarsh, Charlie Dimmock, Diarmuid Gavin and Chris Beardshaw.

BBC Radio Cornwall thus appears to have little regard or respect for the unfortunate recent history of the ancient valley system of St Breock. Through complex and dubious manoeuvres (revealed at 'The ‘New’, ‘Biggest’ & ‘Best’ (& Muckiest [Yet!])Prize Farmyard Quiz! ' below), the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, by 1992, damaged the valley landform beyond recognition, causing flooding, following slow draining rainfall, to itself and the mid-show cancellation of the 1993 Royal Cornwall Show for public safety reasons. In addition, during subsequent years, repeated flooding to settlements downstream followed this gross insult to the historic and formerly lyrical valley landform of Holy Valley, St Breock.

What caring gardener or horticulturalist who loves Cornwall’s landscape and her indigenous and diverse plant life would see a landscape damaging and stream smothering waste tip as a suitable setting for a truly plant and nature loving endeavour?

The ‘New’, ‘Biggest’ & ‘Best’ (& Muckiest [Yet!])
Prize Farmyard Quiz! :

(Potential Exhibitors-Check your pluvial insurance event washout cover!)

1 .Who covertly connived with the Anglican Church Commissioners to buy 14 acres of artificially inflated steep agricultural valley land at £8,000/Grade 4 acre, presuming planning permission to fill it with bypass construction waste,& subsequently siphoned off public moneys & ‘compensation’ via the Wadebridge bypass scheme to balance the books?

a) The Make Poverty History Campaign? b) The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association?

2. What, illegally & without the necessary consent of the Charity Commissioners, borrowed £180,000 from its trustees Lloyds Bank to buy this land & also to build an on-site dwelling with charity moneys for its retiring secretary, Albert Riddle?

a) Bertie the Beaver? b) The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association?

3. Who went against the ‘fundamental objections’ of the National River Authority (now EA) &stripped & filled & levelled the top end of Holy Valley, St Breock with115,000m³of compressed bypass waste to make a platform for the temporarily fragrant flower tent at the 3 day show regardless of the year round 365 day flood threat to downstream dwellings, residents & listed buildings?

a) Brenda the Queen Bee? b) The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association?

4.When the 3 day Royal Cornwall ’charity’ Show was cancelled in 1993 due to dangerous levels of mud the year after the valley & stream-bed were filled in, what did the treasurer, Venning Davey, blame, on TV, as the cause of the cancellation, & the reason why the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association refused to even partially refund ticket & stall holder fees?

a) Rain & ruined natural drainage? b) ‘Act of God’?

5. Who, in the same summer of 1993, then sent a begging letter out to members pleading for donations, not mentioning that filling the valley with bypass waste had fundamentally & substantially & detrimentally altered the site’s drainage characteristics, while simultaneously negotiating the imminent arrival of a cheque for £50,000 from the Department of Transport for alleged ‘loss of trade’ from by-pass works?
(Works, incidentally which, to favour the RCAA without proper regard for public safety, gave rise to an extremely compressed and complex junction at Tollgate resulting in hundreds of car crashes, serious injuries and 1 death since construction.Due to pressure from a variety of directions Cornwall 'County' Council has expressed the intention to construct a roundabout by 2008.It will be interesting to see whether the RCAA touts for yet another tranche of 'compensation'!)

a) The Borrowers? b) The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association?

6. When run-off rain repeatedly flooded & damaged buildings downstream during the following decade, from which direction did the waters flow?

a) The Far East? b) The Deep South? c) The Royal Cornwall Showground?

7. In full knowledge of these serious local problems downstream & knowing of other major flooding incidents, in particular at Boscastle and on the south coast of Cornwall in 2004, who then, in 2005, proceeded to spread non-porous tarmac on miles of internal, comparatively porous, hardcore roadways for the convenience of the 3 day Royal Cornwall Show, not only jeopardizing future shows but demonstrating complete & utter disregard for the permanent year round additional & accelerated surface water run-off threat to downstream dwellings?

a) Patrick the Tarmacker? b) The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association?

8) Which well known reportedly ‘environmentally concerned’ individual was President of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association when Holy Valley, St Breock was stripped & filled & levelled & is now the Patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association when the showground site has been so recklessly & unwisely tarmacked & did nothing to advise against either?

a) The Duke of Hazard? b) The Duke of Cornwall?

9)Who has further demonstrated the unreliability of his often-stated ‘environmental concern’ by collaborating with Ampersand & their ridiculous concrete folly at Carlyon Bay, authorising the Duchy of Cornwall (corporate division) to collude with Ampersand in a foolish & reckless plan to extend the steep shelving exposed beach itself seaward by 16 metres along its entire length ( http://www.cornish-stannary-parliament.abelgratis.com/page100.html )?

a) The Duke of Hazards? b) The Duke of Cornwall?

10) Which reportedly ‘environmentally concerned’ individual and Patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association is also manoeuvring, via the Duchy of Cornwall (corporate division), to compound urbanising pressures on Newquay further by attempting to ease into position, with smooth talk & swishy PowerPoint presentations, yet another profiteering Disney style and unnecessary ‘affordable housing’ scam on a green field site, while conveniently, opportunistically & greedily ignoring the fact that it is laissez-faire planning non-control & negligence allowing villages to be emptied through the immoral & scandalous misappropriation of primary residential housing by non-residents for occasional holidays instead of requiring holidaymakers to use the abundant designated holiday facilities that is the root cause of the current housing disaster for the children, young people, families & communities of Cornwall?

a) The Duke of Hazards? b) The Duke of Cornwall?

11) Which current Chairman of the Royal Cornwall Association has also demonstrated this short-sighted profiteering obsession with the over-development & concrete & tarmac suffocation of Cornwall by allowing his soliciting firm Coode’s, StAustell , to act for Ampersand by holding the deposits of the foolish, taken in by Ampersand spin, for luxury flats which, if ever built, will be forever insecure?

a) Jonathon Coode? b) Jonothan Coode?

Media Professional Objectivity Challenge Question!

Which indiscriminatingly pro - over - development media operations with their exhibits at the Royal Cornwall Show and their headquarters over in England have failed, compromised by over-intimate commercial involvements, to apply professional standards of objective journalism to the destructive land mismanagement practices of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association itself & other currently out of control profiteers creating unnecessary, unsustainable & destructive construction & infrastructure pressures on Cornwall & the further disenfranchisement & social dislocation of so many of her people?

a) ‘Concreting Cornwall Monthly’? b) The Western Morning News & BBC Radio ‘Cornwall’?

Bonus Big Mystery Question! :

Which former & retired secretary & fiefdom member, still occupying the Royal Cornwall Show site in the illegally funded building pictured above, is the biggest individual beneficiary of the ‘charity’ known as The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association (Reg.Ch.No.250312)? :
a) Albert Fiddle b) Albert Riddle

'WHILE MOST farmers at least try to appear eco-friendly these days, stalwarts of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association are carrying out a scorched earth policy.

With its ramshackle buildings and lurid sodium lights, the association’s showground at Wadebridge already looks like a post-war trading estate. Now the Cornish yeomen are set on ruining part of a beautiful wooded valley in order to expand their shanty empire.

The RCAA – one of whose vice-presidents is the Prince of Wales – bought the picturesque Holy Valley along with a block of land adjoining their show site when they learned that the Wadebridge by-pass was to run alongside them. To the horror of locals they are pressing ahead with a wheeze to fill a part of the valley with spoil from the road construction.

The woodland stream is to be enclosed in a culvert serviced by five laddered tubes; the idea being to level the show site and thus make for room for burger vans and stalls selling wax jackets and horse brasses. Odd when the rural lobby insists that farmers are the natural custodians of the countryside.

Defending what locals call an act of environmental desecration, show secretary Chris Riddle claims the ‘reclamation’ is essential to replace a corner of the showground lost to the road development. Without it the annual dog show might not fit in, he warns chillingly.

Meanwhile the charity commissioners have been asked to investigate the land purchase by the RCAA, a registered charity.’

The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association is registered as a charity (Oh Yes!), (number 250312), and is governed by a body known as the Council. (Guess who!):

Royal Horticultural Society judges who should, in the light of flood experiences and forecasts across the UK along with processed water shortages caused by unsustainable levels of urbanisation and over – development of green belt designated areas, consider making 100% porosity and maximum rainwater conservation for irrigation purposes priority design criteria for entries to RHS garden design events whilst also withdrawing / refusing endorsement of events, such as the Royal Cornwall Show, whose organisers engage in the kind of landscape vandalism described in the main article above until proper land stewardship strategies are put in place and implemented:

The Cheap Revolution

Poor Steve Jobs. First he apologizes for dropping the price of the iPhone from $599 to $399 after just 10 weeks on the market and offers Apple customers a $100 rebate. Now he's being slapped with a $1 million lawsuit from a New York woman who says Apple violated price discrimination laws when her fancy new phone was suddenly worth $200 less.

What's going on here? Did Mr. Jobs gouge early technology adopters just for a couple extra (billion) bucks? I don't think so. After a long streak of successes, Mr. Jobs and Apple -- whose stock is up more than 20-fold since 2002 -- have collided with two forces stronger than they are: One is the cheap revolution; the other is the global economy. Together they forced Apple to drop the price of the iPhone and offend its geeky customer base.

Some background: The cheap revolution is a first-order effect of Moore's Law. If you don't know Moore's Law by now, you should probably hang it up. But in case the coffee is slow to stir you this morning, here is the short version: Fairchild Semiconductor cofounder (and later Intel cofounder) Gordon Moore formulated his famous law in 1965, six years after Fairchild had invented the silicon chip. Mr. Moore saw that the number of transistors that could be shrunk and baked into a silicon chip of constant size was doubling every year or so. Caltech professor Carver Mead dubbed this exponential trend of transistor density "Moore's Law" and soon everyone agreed that 18 months was the predicted interval of doubling.

For years, if you said Moore's Law, people presumed you were describing a future of ever more powerful computers. The personal computers of 1981, including the Apple II and the IBM PC, were punks by today's standards. They could run only rudimentary spreadsheets and word processing software. But soon, the dark green screens and white type were replaced by graphics during the mid-1980s, first in the Apple Macintosh and later in PCs running successive versions of Microsoft Windows. This was a terrific advance. But software could only evolve at the pace of Moore's Law.

ARM's new Cortex core ready for low-power multicore chips

Two weeks after Intel signaled its future low-power intentions, ARM has unveiled its latest mobile chip design for smart phones and consumer devices that will arrive around 2010.

The Cortex A9 is an extension of the Cortex family of processor cores that ARM unveiled two years ago with the Cortex A8. It combines the multiprocessor support of older ARM cores with the Cortex design, ARM's highest-performance implementation to date. Several ARM partners, such as Texas Instruments, Samsung, STMicroelectronics, Nvidia and NEC Electronics also announced plans to use the Cortex A9 in future chips for smart phones and consumer electronics devices.

The Cortex-A9 processors have a dynamic length, 8-stage superscalar, multi-issue pipeline with speculative out-of-order execution. It is capable of executing up to four instructions per cycle in devices clocked at more than 1-GHz.
The Cortex-A9 MPCore processor supports system-level coherence with accelerators and DMA to further increase performance and reduce power consumption at the system level. The Cortex-A9 single core processor was developed for simplified design migration and reduced time-to-market of high-performance, cost-sensitive applications such as feature phones and other low cost embedded devices.

Analysis: Application blocking diminishes iPhone

Forget bricked iPhones. For many iPhone users, the biggest disappointment with last week’s iPhone software update wasn’t that it rendered unlocked phones inoperable but that it disabled third-party apps that have sprung up for Apple’s device. And that could lead to ongoing grief for the company, analysts say.

Released last Thursday, iPhone Software Update 1.1.1 brought security updates, improved volume for the speaker and receiver, and access to the iTunes Wi-Fi Store, among other features. But the software update also brought about two changes unwelcome to users who’ve turned to third-party hacks to add capabilities to their iPhone—it disabled phones that had been unlocked to work with other carriers (as Apple warned it would), and it wiped out applications—everything from games to ringtones—that users had installed on their phones.

It’s that last development that figures to cause Apple the biggest headache long after the initial clamor over bricked iPhones fades away.

“There is some serious frustration from people that did not unlock the phone but did use third-party applications,” said Tim Bajarin, president of high-tech consulting firm Creative Strategies. “The fact those apps have been altered has caused a big outcry. Apple is taking a significant hit because enough of people found those applications useful.”

But this is the problem with the iPhone (and now the iPod Touch): is it a computer or not? Those who want the freedom to put outside applications on their iPhones think it's a little computer that should be able to run the same kinds of applications that they can on their Macs, or at the very least applications created for other smart phones.

Apple isn't ready for that yet. It's not even willing to take an "out of sight, out of mind" approach, like TiVo did with those who added unauthorized software to their TiVos. Instead, it's taking a cue from Sony, which moved quickly to scuttle PSP hacks only to watch the behavior continue unabated.

I have to side with the developers on this one: a closed device is not going to revolutionize the smart phone market. There are too many open devices out there already and Apple simply doesn't have the manpower to create all the potentially useful applications that could drive iPhone sales. Also, these development efforts are going to happen anyway; if Apple decides it's going to remove third-party applications with each software update, people will quickly learn to simply stop applying the updates and deprive themselves of new features for the iPhone as well as the extremely important bug fixes and security updates that Apple needs to keep the iPhone stable.
