sourceAIRBUS has removed its chief operating officer and head of the troubled A380 program, Charles Champion.
The dismissal of the highly respected Mr Champion marks the first move by the new chief executive, Christian Streiff, to stamp his authority on the management of the European aircraft maker, which was plunged into crisis in the early summer when it was forced to disclose embarrassing delivery delays in its flagship A380 superjumbo project.
Mr Champion is to become "special adviser" to the chief executive.
Mr Streiff, a former deputy chief executive of the Saint-Gobain group who was hired in early July from outside the aerospace industry, ordered an immediate review of the A380 industrial program. He said the findings would be reported at the end of September.
