Daniel Smith's exit; Whitney's return from rehab; stars' tummies

PEOPLE: For all the dark scenarios and seamy theories surrounding the death of Anna Nicole Smith's 20-year-old son in Doctors Hospital, Room 201, Daniel Smith may have met a relatively mundane end: a fatal heart arrhythmia, or abnormal heartbeat.

At least that's what People concludes in its four-page cover story ("What Happened to Daniel?" Page 70). Investigators found no vomit, blood or drugs in the room where Daniel died while visiting Anna Nicole two days after the birth of her new baby. What's more, Dr. Cyril Wecht, a forensic pathologist Smith hired, seemed certain after an autopsy that brain tumors, cancer, blood clots, suicide or foul play hadn't caused Daniel's death.

Coroner Linda Virgil will conduct an inquest and bring witnesses before a jury Oct. 23. But one thing seemed clear when People went to press: Anna Nicole, who required sedation after her son's death, is devastated. "She told [her lawyer and friend] Howard [Stern], `I'd like to watch a movie with Daniel,'" said Alex Goen, CEO of Trimspa, which Smith promotes. "Howard had to explain it to her all over again."
